If you have suspected that Pinterest continues to raise by leaps and bounds, you are absolutely correct. Relatively unheard of until it began experiencing explosive increase and popularity last year, Pinterest has quickly become a powerhouse for sharing and discovering.
A new study from Semiocast shows that Pinterest currently has more than 70 million users on the site. As of February, comScore reported that Pinterest had 48.7 million users globally.
Interestingly, Semiocast took a random sample of 2.05 million users in order to gauge how dynamic the average member on the site is. They found that a little over 30 percent of users pinned, repinned or liked an image or video last month, which is amazingly high.
They found that users from the U.S. are far more active than international users on Pinterest. in June 2013, 79 percent of Pinterest users who pinned, repinned, or liked were from the United States.
Pinterest is attempting to broaden their user base internationally with localized Pinterest launches in both the UK and France. However, during Q2 of 2013, 45 percent of first-time users were from outside of the U.S. In terms of popularity, Canada is second, the UK is third, and Australia is fourth for number of Pinterest users.
Semiocast also looked at Pinterest business accounts, and discovered that not many brands have formed or converted to Pinterest business accounts. As of July 1, there were only about half a million of these business accounts.
Shockingly, China with second in the number of business accounts, with 38 percent of business accounts being from China. This is definitely worth noting because Pinterest isn't restricted in Chinese yet.
